Instructions:

Prepare the Bottle:

- Fill the bottle about two-thirds full with vegetable oil.
Prepare the Water Mixture:
- In a separate container, mix water with a few drops of food coloring. The color choice is up to you, but traditionally red, blue, or green is used for a classic lava lamp effect.
- Pour the colored water into the bottle, leaving some space at the top.
Observe the Separation:
- Allow the bottle to sit for a few minutes to allow the water and oil to separate. The oil will float on top of the water due to differences in density.
Add the Effervescent Tablet:
- Break an effervescent tablet (Alka-Seltzer) into small pieces.
- Drop one of the tablet pieces into the bottle and observe the reaction.
Observe the Lava Lamp Effect:
- As the tablet reacts with the water, it releases carbon dioxide gas bubbles.
- These bubbles attach to droplets of colored water, causing them to rise through the oil in a mesmerizing motion reminiscent of a lava lamp.
